<lj:music>just what we're making</lj:music>

Johnny & Michelle here out of town again, enjoying good times with good friends, Went to DC for Christmas, hung with my huge family, it was insane as usual, but the best time was when after X-mas was over, the next day I got a chance to hang with my sister Jane, of course I had a guitar in my hands, just strumming aimlessly, when she suggested I write a song about the plight of women in other countries who are pretty much treated as slaves. The next thing I knew she had paper and was writing lyrics. I've never written anything with Jane before, but the whole thing just came out like majic, melody, lyrics, everything, Jane was singing sweetly, one of those great days.The song came out cool, it's not a bloodroot song...
My sister Jane's website is www.JaneAYoung.com it's science

But tonight, Friday - I think I've got the best song I've written all year.
I know I think that about every song when it comes out, but we were hangin with people, and they kept singing it, for those who care, we're in Chapel Hill, hangin with G and new friends

Typist's note: So did I, Michelle,
for what that's worth. We wrote down the lyrics and all the chords, all we had to record on was a microcassete recorder and/or our answering machine.
Just playing it in full that many times we should remember it...

How many great ideas have been lost to not recording or writing them down??

Back to Johnny...
Well, it's 5 am and I'm halfway through writing another song, too psyched to go to sleep yet, hoping this last Red Stripe I have sitting in front of me will give me the last verse so I can sleep in peace, knowing I've had a day well spent.

Happy Holidays to all, may the next year be better than the last.
Keep a firm hold of your dreams and may the world not spin so fast.

peace out,

Johnny - but he didn't type it

So now there is a slight lull in the Bloodroot concert schedule. We will be playing on the 30th for JPF at the CNote in the LES. Ave C and around 10th street or something. More info to come soon.

I can't wait to get behind the drum kit and lay down some trax. Recording is my favorite part about being a musician. It allows you the chance to sit down and put what is in your head down onto something that could have infinite life.

<ramble>

I have always wondered what would of happened to music if the greats of yesteryear were given the ability to record. If Mozart had a DA88 and a NCP would he of made beats? If Bach had a fuzz box what would of he distored? If Miles Davis had a phatty Korg what would of been different?

Otay i am rambling...but still the notion of Mozart sampling something and looping it is a pretty phat one...DJ Moz w0rd

Also who in the last century do you think deserves to make the list of greats? Who in the last century if given a full orchestra as opposed to a guitar and DA88 would of made the next great symphony??? Who would of chosen those goofy wigs?

</ramble>

Just got back from a great weekend in Boston. On Saturday night, hangin with my old Maryland friend Wayne, I ended up playing keys with his classic rock band, there were already 2 guitar players, so it would have been redundant with a third guitar, or should I say insane - totally insane, so I brought my keyboard and riffed along...but the coolest thing was that before and between their sets I got to play Bloodroot tunes on acoustic guitar... people clapped and liked it - it was really good to know that the tunes stood up naked almost as well as with a whole band, (their opinion not mine),but the best part was that the club offerred me/us a paid gig anytime :)
wooo hooo!

peace,

Johnny
